Text Box: Capitalism & Morality 2016

...if we wish to preserve a free society, it is essential that we recognize that the desirability of a particular object is not sufficient justification for the use of coercion.”
- F. A. Hayek

“Contrary to the vulgar belief that men are motivated primarily by materialistic considerations, we now see the capitalist system being discredited and destroyed all over the world, even though this system has given men the greatest material comforts”

- Ayn Rand

“It is no crime to be ignorant of economics, which is, after all, a specialized discipline and one that most people consider to be a 'dismal science.' But it is totally irresponsible to have a loud and vociferous opinion on economic subjects while remaining in this state of ignorance.”
-Murray Rothbard

Despite hundreds of years of interactions between the West and the Rest, the concept of reason—even today—is unique to Western civilization. Reason made the West intellectually and economically prosperous, and indeed superior. This was not a smooth rise up, but a slow one with humps and often significant regressions.

Reason distinguished humanity from animals. Reason gave us the capacity to accumulate knowledge and wisdom. Without reason, the natural state is entropy, epitomized by cities in the Rest that look like war-zones even if they have had no war for decades.

Despite the information revolution, the Rest has failed to learn the concept of reason. Alas, even in the West, reason is in serious retreat. In the age of trigger-warnings and safe-spaces—which would amuse even Orwell—reason, under the influence of Marxist ideology, is today denigrated by a large swath of people.

Capitalism & Morality seeks to challenge established paradigms.

Two Days of Capitalism & Morality 2016

To the masses, the catchwords of Socialism sound so enticing… so they will continue to work for Socialism, helping thereby to bring about the inevitable decline of the civilization which the nations of the West have taken thousands of years to build up.” - Ludwig von Mises
